3D Projection Mapping in Phoenix & Scottsdale
Transform any surface—from the facade of a resort to a custom-built conference stage—into a dynamic digital canvas. Centric Events combines high-lumen laser projection, advanced media servers, and pinpoint pixel mapping to create unforgettable, immersive brand activations across Arizona.
Turning Architecture into Digital Art
Traditional AV projection puts a rectangular image on a flat screen. 3D projection mapping breaks that boundary entirely. We map video precisely onto the complex geometry of buildings, vehicles, and custom stage sets, making physical objects appear to move, warp, shatter, and transform.
As a full-service live event production company, Centric Events doesn't just rent you the projectors. We handle the entire technical and creative ecosystem. We calculate the throw distances, engineer the custom scenic fabrication for the projection canvas, edge-blend multiple high-lumen laser projectors, and run the complex show files via advanced media servers.
- Architectural mapping for building facades and resort exteriors

The Hardware: Projectors & Media Servers
A successful projection mapping installation is a massive feat of engineering. It requires intense pre-production, precise CAD modeling, and a deep understanding of ambient light mitigation—especially in sunny Arizona.
When you hire Centric Events for a mapping project, you are hiring technical directors who understand how to manipulate light and geometry at scale. Standard laptops and ballroom projectors cannot handle the demands of 3D mapping.
Core Technical Components:
- High-Lumen Laser Projection: Mapping requires massive amounts of light to overcome ambient bleed and surface color absorption. We calculate the required foot-lamberts for your specific surface and deploy fleets of stacked 20,000 to 40,000 lumen laser projectors to ensure your content is incredibly bright, crisp, and color-accurate.
- Projector Stacking & Convergence: Often, a single projector isn't bright enough. We physically "stack" multiple projectors on top of each other, pointing at the exact same surface. Using advanced warping software, we converge the pixels of both projectors so they overlap perfectly, effectively doubling the brightness of the image.
- Edge Blending: A large building or ultra-wide stage set cannot be covered by a single projector beam. We use overlapping projector fields and sophisticated blending software to feather the edges where the beams meet, creating one massive, seamless, ultra-high-resolution canvas out of multiple projectors.
- Advanced Media Servers: You cannot run a mapped show from PowerPoint. We utilize industry-standard media servers like Disguise (d3), Resolume Arena, and Dataton Watchout. These systems allow us to pre-visualize the entire show in a 3D environment, map specific video pixels to physical real-world edges, and trigger complex 4K video cues in perfect sync with your stage lighting (via SMPTE timecode).
How We Work With 3D Content Animators
The most beautiful hardware setup in the world is useless without pixel-perfect content. The "trick" of projection mapping—making a physical pillar look like it's crumbling, or making a car look like it's driving through a neon city—relies entirely on the animators knowing exactly where the physical edges of the object are located in the real world.
Whether you are using your own creative agency, or hiring our network of 3D motion graphics artists, Centric Events acts as the technical bridge to ensure the art fits the canvas.
The Content Workflow:
- 3D CAD Modeling & Scanning: We start by taking exact measurements of the venue. If we are mapping a custom stage, our scenic fabrication team builds the set directly from our CAD drawings. If we are mapping an existing building, we use laser scanning to create an exact digital replica.
- Generating Pixel Masks & UV Maps: We take that 3D model and generate a "Pixel Map" or "UV Map." This is essentially a digital blueprint that we hand to the animators. It tells their software (like Cinema4D or After Effects) exactly where the windows, doors, edges, and angles are in pixel-space.
- Wireframe Testing: Before the final heavy renders are complete, the animators send us a simple "wireframe" grid based on the pixel map. We project this grid onto the physical surface to ensure every line hits exactly where it should.
- Final Render & Playback: Once the wireframe is approved, the animators render the high-resolution, uncompressed video files. We load these massive files onto our media servers, map them to the outputs, and let the show begin.
Mapping in the Arizona Climate
Executing an outdoor projection mapping event in Phoenix or Scottsdale comes with a highly specific set of challenges that out-of-state AV companies often underestimate. The environment actively works against the technology.
- Thermal Management: 30,000 lumen projectors generate immense heat, and when placed outside in the Arizona desert, they will quickly trigger thermal shutdowns. For outdoor building mapping, we deploy specialized, climate-controlled projector enclosures with active HVAC cooling to ensure the show doesn't go dark.
- Twilight Load-ins: You cannot map what you cannot see. Because the desert sun is so intense, our crews must execute precise convergence and edge-blending only after the sun goes down. We specialize in rapid twilight deployments, calculating the math during the day so the calibration is fast and precise at night.
- Wind and Rigging: Outdoor projection towers act like giant sails in monsoon winds. Our technical directors engineer heavily ballasted, cross-braced scaffolding towers to ensure the projectors do not vibrate. A projector shifting by even half an inch in the wind will ruin the 3D optical illusion.
Immersive Event Experiences
Projection mapping is the ultimate tool for capturing audience attention. Here is how we deploy it for events across Phoenix.
Architectural & Building Mapping
Turn the facade of a Scottsdale resort or the Phoenix Convention Center into a massive billboard. We map custom 3D animations that interact with the building's windows, pillars, and architecture.
Custom Stage Set Mapping
Elevate your corporate keynote. Our scenic fabrication team builds custom 3D geometric stage sets, and we map dynamic motion graphics onto them to create a living, breathing backdrop.
Immersive Dining & Galas
Transport your VIP guests. We map 360-degree environments around ballrooms, or even micro-map animations directly onto the dining tables and centerpieces for high-end galas.
Product Launches & Vehicles
Launching a new car or physical product? We can pixel-map the exact contours of the vehicle or product, projecting changing colors, x-ray views, and motion graphics directly onto its surface.
Brand Activations & Art Installations
Create viral, Instagrammable moments at trade shows or festivals. We map interactive visuals onto custom props, domes, or temporary structures to draw crowds to your activation.
High-Lumen Projector Rentals
If you have the content and the media server op, but just need the firepower. We provide dry-hire AV rentals of 20K+ lumen laser projectors and long-throw lenses.
Mapping Starts with a Site Survey
Every projection mapping project is unique to the venue. Contact us to schedule a site walk with our technical directors to assess throw distances and ambient light.

Site Survey & 3D Scanning
We measure the venue, calculate the ambient light, determine projector placement (throw distances), and create a highly accurate 3D CAD model of the projection surface.
Pixel Mapping & Content
We generate precise pixel templates (masks) for the 3D animators. While the content is being rendered, our scenic shop builds any necessary custom stage flats or physical structures.
Load-in & Convergence
On-site, we rig the high-lumen projectors. Our technicians spend hours meticulously adjusting the lenses, edge-blending the overlapping beams, and warping the grid to perfectly hit the physical edges.
Show Execution
During the event, our media server operator triggers the dynamic visuals, ensuring perfect sync with the audio tracks, LED walls, and stage lighting cues.
