Pipe and Drape Fabric Types We Rent

Not all drape is created equal. We stock four primary fabrics to cover everything from a massive light-blocking corporate stage build to an elegant, translucent wedding arch.

Heavyweight
Velour Drape
100% Opaque · Sound Dampening

The industry standard for corporate events. Heavyweight black velour completely blocks light, hides backstage mess, and improves room acoustics. Essential behind a bright stage.

Most Versatile
Poly Premier
Matte Finish · Many Colors

A clean, professional knit fabric used for high-end trade show booths, room dividers, and vibrant event backdrops. Less heavy than velour, but still presents a solid, flat color wall.

Elegant & Light
Sheer Voile
Translucent · Perfect for Up-lights

Lightweight, flowing fabric used primarily for weddings, galas, and bespoke ceiling swags. When hit with LED up-lighting, sheer voile glows beautifully.

Cost-Effective
Banjo Cloth
Textured · Expo Standard

The classic, slightly textured fabric you see at every major convention center expo hall. Lightweight, budget-friendly, and perfect for building hundreds of 10x10 vendor booths.

Drape Fullness: Understanding Pleating

Drape doesn't look good pulled entirely tight. The elegant, rippled look is called "fullness" or pleating. To calculate how much fabric you actually need, you must account for this extra material.

Budget / Utilitarian

0% Fullness (Flat)

The fabric is pulled entirely taut across the crossbar with no ripples or pleats.

  • Uses the absolute minimum amount of fabric.
  • Looks industrial and cheap; rarely recommended for forward-facing events.
  • Sometimes used strictly for masking off dead space or construction zones where aesthetics don't matter.
Corporate Standard

50% Fullness

The industry standard. For every 10 feet of wall, we use 15 feet of fabric.

  • Provides a clean, professional ripple.
  • Ensures hardware (uprights and crossbars) remain completely hidden behind the fabric.
  • The default standard we quote for stage backdrops and trade shows.
Premium / Weddings

100% Fullness

A very rich, heavily gathered look. For every 10 feet of wall, we use 20 feet of fabric.

  • Creates deep, luxurious folds.
  • Highly recommended for Sheer Voile, allowing up-lights to catch the deep ripples.
  • The standard for high-end weddings, galas, and premium VIP entrances.

Engineering Safe Drape Structures

Building an 8ft photo backdrop is easy. Building a 16ft tall wall of heavy velour next to an audience requires proper engineering, weight distribution, and strict fire code compliance.

  • NFPA 701 Fire Certification: Venue safety is non-negotiable. Phoenix and Scottsdale Fire Marshals frequently inspect event drapery. All Centric fabrics are certified Inherently Flame Retardant (IFR) or Flame Retardant (FR). We provide the necessary fire certificates to your venue to guarantee compliance.
  • Base Plate Weight Engineering: The taller the drape, the heavier the steel base plate must be to prevent catastrophic tipping. While an 8ft upright uses a light 14lb base, a 16ft upright holding heavy velour requires massive 35lb+ steel plates, supplemented with sandbags.
  • Slip-Fit vs. Pin & Truss Rigging: We use standard ground-supported telescoping uprights for runs up to 16ft indoors. For anything over 16ft, or for outdoor builds where wind is a critical factor, ground-support is unsafe. In these cases, drape must be flown from lighting truss and motor hoists.

Height & Baseplate Matrix

We engineer your quote based on height to ensure absolute safety. Here is how hardware scales as your drape gets taller.

Drape Height Baseplate Size & Weight Best Fabric Match Common Application
3 ft Tall 8" x 14" (6 lbs) Banjo / Poly Premier Trade show side rails, crowd control lines
8 ft Tall 14" x 16" (14 lbs) Poly Premier / Sheer Standard room dividers, step-and-repeat photo walls
10 ft – 12 ft Tall 16" x 14" (16 lbs) Poly Premier / Black Velour Tall dividers, small corporate stage backdrops
14 ft – 16 ft Tall 18" x 18" (35 lbs) + Sandbags Heavyweight Black Velour Massive general session AV backdrop masking
16ft+ or Custom Rigged via Box Truss Voile / Custom Fabrics Arena builds, ceiling swags, outdoor mainstages
What makes up a linear foot? A complete pipe and drape system consists of flat steel baseplates, vertical telescoping uprights, horizontal crossbars, and the fabric itself. When quoting your project, we calculate the exact ratio of all four components needed for your specific floor plan.

Drape Rentals for Corporate, Weddings & Trade Shows

Pipe and drape is the duct tape of the event industry — it solves a million spatial problems. Here is how we deploy our drape inventory in Phoenix.

Stage Backdrops & AV Masking

Heavyweight black velour is mandatory behind your presenters. It blocks stray light, hides backstage equipment, and provides high-contrast making your LED video walls and projection screens "pop". Pair it seamlessly with our stage rentals.

Pipe and Drape Rental FAQ

The most common technical questions we get from event planners mapping out their drape rentals.

You just need to tell us the linear footage of the wall you want to cover, and the height you want the drape to reach. Our team will calculate the exact number of baseplates, uprights, crossbars, and fabric panels (accounting for 50% or 100% fullness) required to execute the build perfectly.
Standard heights are 3ft (for trade show rails), 8ft (standard room height), 10ft, 12ft, and 16ft. We can build custom drape taller than 16ft, but this requires specialized heavy base plates, sandbags, and our professional setup team for safety.
Yes! For standard 8ft runs (like a simple photo backdrop or room divider), in-store pickup is easy and cost-effective. The telescoping poles fit in most SUVs or trucks with the seats down. Taller setups (12ft+) require massive 30lb+ steel base plates and ladders, so we generally require full-service delivery for those builds.
It completely depends on the fabric. If you need to block out windows or hide messy backstage areas, you must use our Heavyweight Black Velour. Standard Poly Premier and Banjo fabrics will let bright sunlight bleed through. Sheer Voile is completely translucent by design.
Yes, Poly Premier and Banjo cloth are available in dozens of colors (black, white, red, blue, grey, etc.). Velour is typically stocked in black for corporate use, and Sheer Voile is typically stocked in white for weddings and lighting effects. If you need a highly specific Pantone match, we can custom source fabric with enough lead time.
Yes. All of our pipe and drape fabrics are treated and certified as Inherently Flame Retardant (IFR) or Flame Retardant (FR) to meet strict Phoenix Fire Marshal codes (NFPA 701) for indoor public gatherings. We provide certificates to your venue upon request.
