Luxury Desert Resort Production

Event Production at The Boulders Resort & Spa

The Boulders Resort & Spa sits among massive desert rock formations north of Scottsdale near Carefree — a setting you don't find anywhere else in the state. Executive retreats and incentive programs book it because the landscape is the point. We design A/V that lets the boulders do the work.

About the Venue

Events at The Boulders

The Boulders is an unusual property in the Arizona resort market — the natural rock formations define the setting and inform event design. The meeting and event footprint includes ballroom and meeting space, multiple outdoor event venues including dramatic boulder-backdrop locations, and a championship golf course that plays through the desert landscape.

Planners who book The Boulders are almost always doing so because the setting is part of the experience. A/V design reflects that — production that makes the backdrop a feature rather than hiding it, outdoor lighting that works with the landscape, and equipment positioning that respects the desert setting. Most inquiries here involve outdoor programming at minimum and often entirely outdoor events for the social moments.

Centric isn't affiliated with The Boulders, Hilton's Curio Collection, or the property's ownership. We're not the in-house A/V at this property. Planners hire us directly when they want production sensitive to the property's distinctive setting.

How We Work

Production in a Desert Landscape

The Boulders requires production design thinking that most hotel ballrooms don't — what does the rig look like against desert rocks at dusk? Where does power come from when the stage is on a boulder-backed terrace? How do we build a weather contingency on a Sonoran Desert evening that might be 75 degrees or 95 degrees?

We lean on outdoor production capability: generator power, weatherized gear, lighting designed to complement the natural backdrop (usually warm ambient uplight on boulders rather than high-contrast intelligent rigs), discreet audio that fills the space without dominating it, and an operational plan that accounts for temperature shifts through a desert evening.

Planner FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what planners ask us most when scoping an event at The Boulders Resort & Spa.

Is Centric affiliated with The Boulders or the Curio Collection?
No. Centric is an independent Phoenix A/V company. We aren't affiliated with The Boulders, Hilton's Curio Collection, or the property's ownership, and we are not the resort's in-house A/V provider. Planners hire us directly.
Can you produce an entirely outdoor event at The Boulders?
Yes — Many programs here are predominantly or entirely outdoor. The production plan includes generator power, weatherized gear, lighting designed for the desert setting, and an indoor pivot contingency for weather. Crew and gear selection both adjust to outdoor-forward programming.
How do you handle power outdoors?
Generator power sized to the load, with placement planned to keep generator noise away from attendee zones and fuel-service routing off guest paths. For events using multiple outdoor positions, we may use multiple distributed generators rather than one large unit to reduce cable runs.
What's the weather contingency for a desert outdoor event?
A pre-identified indoor backup space, a defined decision timeline (typically 4 to 6 hours before doors for the go/no-go call), and a contingency plan that's operationally real rather than theoretical. Rain is rare but monsoon-season events in July through September have real wind-and-rain variability that we plan for.
Is lighting allowed on the rock formations themselves?
Lighting design that illuminates the boulders is typically welcome and is part of why planners choose this property. We design warm, low-intensity uplight that makes the landscape a feature. The resort's grounds team reviews any fixture placement on or very near the natural formations.
What's load-in like at a remote desert resort?
Load-in routes through the resort's loading access, which is less urban than a downtown hotel but more logistically involved than a standard resort because of the distance from gear staging to outdoor event positions. We plan for longer setup windows and additional crew for gear movement.
How far ahead should we book?
For a multi-day program at The Boulders with outdoor components, 4 to 6 months of lead time is comfortable. Custom scenic, generator coordination, and extended crew planning all benefit from that runway.
